Tatting: how to work with three shuttles (part 2) - Chiacchierino: come lavorare con tre navette - (parte 2)

In the previous post we have seen how to work a chain of knots with picots on both sides, now we see how to make the motif shown in this photo by using three shuttles  and two different colours.

Wind the tatting shuttles and tie the ends.
With beige thread, make a ring of 12ds - 1p - 12ds. Close and reverse work.
Now, before working the chain, you must decide the sequence of colours, taking care to respect this choice for all the chain processing.
I decided to start with the beige colour.
Leave the shuttle with brown thread on the back of the work and with the beige thread make a chain of 2ds.
Change shuttle, but be careful not to cross the threads, leave the shuttle with beige colour on the front of the work. Make 1p - 2nd.
Change shuttle again and continue with 1p - 2ds.
Work at the same way up to obtain 5p of beige colour and 4p of brown colour. Join the chain to the picot of the ring and, with the first shuttle, work a ring of 12ds - 1p - 12ds. Close and reverse work.
Make a chain as before, with the same sequence of colours; as the chain is reversed compared to the first, you will see the brown picots above those beige on the front of the work; reversing the order of the shuttles you will have a chain equal to the first with the beige picots above the brown picots. This choice depends on the result you want.
Continue for the desired length.

Look how the result changes if you work only one ds between the picots, instead of two ds!
